The new editorial team's goal: make the best even better

THE NEW ASSOCIATE EDITORS and I are
tremendously excited and honored to have this opportunity to serve the
American Journal of Physiology-Renal Physiology. Dr. Steven
Hebert and his Associate Editors have done an outstanding job during
the previous six years, and we are confident that the renal physiology
community joins us in thanking them for their efforts. Dr. Hebert also
deserves great credit for instituting the short, focused invited
reviews, and we are committed to continuing this informative series.
On a personal level, I am honored to follow in the footsteps of
Drs. Tom Andreoli, Jim Schafer, Keith Hruska, and Steven Hebert, the
previous Editors of AJP-Renal and to be entrusted with the Editorship of the premier journal in renal physiology. I am fortunate to be joined by a superb team of Associate Editors: Drs. Sharon Anderson, Pam Carmines, Douglas Eaton, Tom Kleyman, and Susan Wall.
This team was chosen to ensure coverage of as many different aspects of
renal physiology as possible and for their scientific excellence and
commitment to providing a rigorous, but fair and collegial review process.
This transition in editorship provides an opportunity for us to
build on the present success of AJP-Renal and to make the journal even better! The Associate Editors and I are committed to the
following set of goals:
- Making the review process more author friendly by encouraging reviewers
to complete their reviews on time, be rigorous yet fair, and keep the
tone of their reviews collegial.
- Broadening the scope of the subject matter to include a
greater range of articles of interest to all renal scientists.
- Expanding the scope of the invited review series to include
translational research.
A major recent development is the arrival of AJP
Articles in PresS, which will allow accepted manuscripts to be
published on-line within one week of acceptance. With your help, the
Associate Editors and I are committed to publishing the very best
original papers reporting major advances in all aspects of renal
physiology, including renal cell and molecular biology, integrative
physiology, renal hemodynamics, mechanisms of hypertension, transport
physiology, physiological genomics, and translational research. Our
goal is to make AJP-Renal the home for the best
papers in Renal Physiology, defined in its broadest sense. We encourage
you to submit your best work to AJP-Renal and ask that you
encourage your colleagues to submit their best work. We look forward to working with each of you during the coming years to make the best renal
physiology journal even better.
