Fig. 1.   Cultured proximal tubule epithelial (LLC-PK1) cells uptake albumin. Cells were incubated with no BSA (control) or with 20 mg/ml BSA (albumin) for 72 h. Immunofluorescence microscopy after staining with monoclonal antibody to albumin revealed that control cells were largely devoid of albumin staining, whereas a distinct punctate cytoplasmic staining was noted in albumin-overloaded cells, consistent with endolysosomal staining.
